Big News For 2007
The past week has been hectic (as usual) with a big deal being struck that
will see Aesthetica Magazine stepping up a gear in 2007.
Firstly, however, the Skipton conference I mentioned in my last entry took
place on Thursday and was a great success. We ran the event with NYBEP and
300 young people from six schools. There were a lot of young people running
around very excited because they weren’t at school for the day. I ran a workshop on
‘Getting Your Ideas Down on Paper’, which was based on mind maps. The day
was brilliant and such a different experience.
Our big news though is a deal with a private investor, which is a national
law firm. An investment has been made into Aesthetica Magazine to help with
growth and development, and we now have a significant shareholder. It was
official on Monday. Together our aim is to grow Aesthetica Magazine into the
biggest arts magazine in the UK. I have a huge grin on my face as I write
this, it’s a really exciting time.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve been working really hard. I added up the
hours I worked and it’s double what you should do! In the past year and a
half, I’ve worked the equivalent of three years.
People have been asking me if it’s strange to be giving away part of
something that I’ve worked so hard to build, but I really don’t feel as if
I’m giving away anything, just gaining a huge amount.
We’re getting an office three times the size of our existing space and we’ll
be employing two more people. My advertising budget will be going up
significantly from last year’s measly £1000 and we’ll be advertising
Aesthetica Magazine in the national papers. On top of all of this we can only
benefit from the huge business experience that the investor will bring.
It really is one of the most amazing opportunities, and a great start for
2007.
