Changing rooms

I’m still working on putting my dressing room together but it’s proving very difficult to juggle two jobs and being a full time mum working from home. I’m at that difficult stage where the new business requires more time, but I can’t give up the job that is paying the bills until the dress business is more established.

When I’ve been going a year and have a better idea of turnover I might consider going down to one or two days and dividing the rest of the time between the kids and Styled By.

It’s really important the room gets finished; until I have it ready I just can’t do any more publicity as there is a limit to how many people I can take up and dress in my bedroom! It’s shaping up beautifully although costing a fortune. As I’m selling first and foremost an experience, I had to make the dressing room a really sumptuous and desirable place to be. I’ve got some textured velvety wallpaper, glowing wooden floors, big mirrors and generally an over the top, chic boutique look going on. I just need a few finishing touches.

I’ve recently had a new development that extends from the ‘selling an experience’ idea; someone has been in touch who wants to come with a few friends for an afternoon of trying lots of gorgeous dresses on without actually hiring anything. This could definitely be something I could offer in the future and extend it to getting in someone to do hair put-ups and maybe a beautician or therapist as well. I could provide this service for hen parties or birthday parties, provide champagne, luxurious foods and maybe even takeaway cameras so they can take pictures of the various outfits. It’s a good idea because the only cost is my time, and no dry cleaning bills or wear and tear on the dresses. So I’ll keep you up to date on any developments with this in my next blog.
