Germinating ideas
We’ve just finished a three day event in which we teamed up with NYBEP to work with young people at eight local schools in order to help them try to grow their very own a sweet pea in a tube of gel!
The event was geared towards promoting chemistry in schools and to encourage it as a career choice after leaving school. The kids really enjoyed doing this and got to take the tube home to leave it on the side until the seed (hopefully) germinates and grows. If done correctly it should in theory become a full-sized plant! They then write a health and safety assessment on this and the best report wins one of our plantlet culture kits.
It was a complete change from the 9 to 5 which made us all expand our comfort zones and get out of the office. I was a fun event, but we also wanted to give something back to the community (along with getting the chance to promote our product). We wanted to help the kids understand the nutrients and balance of chemicals in growing plants.
Our new, improved website is imminent - it takes time to produce good content and these events are great to attend, but they do soak up our time. It will be a multi-page site which covers all our products to give people a real taste of the company and our range of products. Our product sales are fairly constant at the moment but most of our products have been sold to third party companies, so they mostly deal with this side of things.
Our brand new products are developing all the time though, and it is really exciting for me. Though I can say no more at the moment I will be able to make an announcement very soon about one upcoming product that we are very keen to get started on developing for the market.
