Keep this fire burning!
Things are pretty quiet at the moment, as it’s August most people seem to be away on holiday and don’t want to organise courses. The big news is we have gained a new partner! He’s an ex-fireman, which means we can now offer a full range of fire-safety training.
It all came about when someone rang us up to see if we did fire-safety courses. We just said yes straight away, and then got in touch through Harrogate Chamber of Commerce with a local guy we knew of who’s been doing safety training for seven years to see if he would be interested in working together. It’s brilliant for our business to get the chance to diversify and expand in this kind of way; providing a comprehensive range of courses will definitely be preferable for our clients as they won’t need to go to the hassle of finding anyone else to do separate bits of the training they need; we can just go in there and handle it all for them.
It was all really positive from there, after a couple of meetings and discussing how we were going to work together, he came on board! He’s doing a range of work including the safety training and checking fire extinguishers for companies; we just now need to get to work on marketing, and making sure everyone knows about the new training we can offer.
We’ve been really lucky to find such a talented partner to come in on the business. I think it is always worth trying to find someone through your local chamber directories first, the great advantage is that if they are registered then chances are they are a reputable company who aren’t going to try and rip you off! We’ve had a few problems recently with rogue advertisers; we actually got taken in last year and lost some money. It usually starts with a phone call from someone calling to ‘remind’ you of an advert you’ve previously booked in a publication supporting a good cause, and asking you for payment. If you send the money you then never hear from them again. It seems to be quite prevalent at the moment so watch out for them!
September is looking like a very busy month with the Bambino show coming up, so should have quite a lot to talk about in our next entry!
