Opportunities knocking
Well…unfortunately our patent still hasn’t come through – it’s certainly taking its time and hasn’t been the simple process that we first thought…that aside, we’ve had lots to keep us busy.
I’m in my final year at university so there’s all my academic work to keep on top of - my research project is actually related to our business venture and helping us to develop further our idea. My business partner, Luke, is also coming to the end of his PhD in the next few months so he is really tied up with that at the moment. Despite these constraints, we’ve been looking ahead and concentrating on what’s going to happen once we’ve left university. We know that we’re going to need some income to keep us going in the initial stages before we make our first sale. Where exactly that money is going to come from is quite a pressing issue!
On that note, a great opportunity has come our way. We have applied to take part in the HSBC UniPreneurs competition 2008 and we’re through to the last 20. It’s an excellent opportunity to showcase how far we’ve come on a national scale plus the winners get £20,000 which would go some way to solving our problems! If we get through to the last 10, we’ll present our idea to a panel and we’ll get to meet all the other finalists. It’s looking positive as we’ve had a few phone calls from representatives of the competition wanting to know more about us – they must be worried! It would be brilliant if something did come of it; we’d have cash in the bank, made new contacts and got ourselves noticed.
We’re still in contact with the people we met at Global Enterprise Week that I mentioned in my last blog. We’re actually heading down to London soon to meet with them again and show them what progress we’ve made. They’re still thinking about taking people out to California with them to meet the large web players in the US, which is definitely something we’d be keen to get involved with. They’re still deliberating about who they’ll take with them so we’re taking full advantage of each opportunity we have to get our faces known.
So that’s it for the moment…we’ve got these two great opportunities lined up and we’ll just have to wait and see if anything comes of them….
