Pure Genius!
Welcome to my new blog about www.pureclubs.com. To give you a brief overview it is a brand new service which allows clubs & associations of any type, size or location, to setup a content rich website & communications tool…and it’s totally free!
The idea is to increase the involvement and interactivity between a club and its members by allowing them to socialise online. We want to encourage people to “Do something different!”…turn the TV off, find a new and exciting club nearby and join in!
I first had the idea for the concept when I was about 18, had just finished my A-Levels and started to look for new and exciting things to get involved with. Although I was sure there must be clubs, such as Snowboarder and Martial Arts clubs, in the area, there was no extensive list anywhere making them difficult to locate. At this time I didn’t consider the massive business potential the concept had, and shortly went off to Leeds Met University to study Computing.
After completing my degree I was quickly headhunted by a local company to help develop their new ecommerce platform. I have never enjoyed working for other people and this job was no exception. After one year with the company, and turning down a promotion (with a huge payrise!), I set up my own web development agency, Freestyle Web Solutions.
So now, two and a half years on, with significantly more experience of computing, the internet, and web development, along with a massive amount of business experience, I recalled that fantastic concept from when I was just 18! Following an extensive amount of research I discovered that this service still didn’t exist, although by this time, various similar services had already come along and proved the business model of providing a free online social network service, the content for which is populated by the user, and supported through advertising revenue.
It was about this time I approached the Innovation Showcase at Old Broadcasting House (the new flagship building at Leeds Met university for enterprise and innovation), and following a tour of the building and seeing the amazing space, and resources available, quickly moved both Freestyle and Pureclubs.com here.
