Business and social life

When you start your own business you don’t realise how it can change your social life.

Over the past week, I’ve been multi-tasking all over the shop. I’ve written the Aesthetica Magazine audience development plan. I have been editing the new issue of Aesthetica Magazine (and selling advertising space too), as well as applying for funding for a new project that we are developing, which is an alternative fashion magazine for young women aged 16 to 19.

I’m also running a conference on Thursday with NYBEP in Skipton for 300 young people on film and media, so I’ve been preparing for that.

I work very long hours, but I truly enjoy what I do, so it doesn’t feel like work in the traditional sense. I usually get in at nine in the morning and finish about nine in the evening, I also work on Saturdays. And even if I’m not in the office then I’m still thinking about Aesthetica. A lot of my friends run their own businesses as well so they’re pretty busy doing similar things.

Now the whole concept of going home, preparing a meal, and then meeting a few friends doesn’t really happen because I’m usually in the office. I’m more likely to just grab a sandwich and then meet people straight from work.
Running your own business changes your social life, but in a good way!
